Mineola Middle School Students Preview “Dear Edwina”

Students perform two musical numbers at board of education meeting ahead of weekend show.

There will be over 100 students on stage during the Mineola Middle School’s production of “Dear Edwina” next weekend.

“That is a little bit insanity on your part,” superintendent Dr. Michael Nagler joked to drama advisor and play director Matthew DeLuca during Thursday night’s meeting of the board of education at the Willis Avenue School, “but it really is always a great production, I hope everyone comes out to see it and supports our drama productions.”

The musical “Dear Edwina,” which was performed at the school about 10 years ago, “and we’re doing it again,” DeLuca said. “It’s a perfect show for middle school kids because it’s about a middle school girl.”

The story takes place in the garage of Edwina, played by Sarah Harty, who writes an advice column, which is all done in song and dance.

“The kids write in letters and she responds with a musical number,” DeLuca said.

Seventh grader Julianne Wotruba performed one of the letters “Aphrodite’s Song” while Harty performed “Up on the Fridge,” which describes what Edwina’s life ambition.

There are a total of 119 students in the production covering fifth, sixth and seventh grade, “our first time ever,” DeLuca said.

Performances will be on Friday, February 7:30 p.m. and two performances on Saturday, February 9, including a matinee at 2 p.m. and the final show at 7:30 p.m.

I'm sorry Marie but there is no information about when the project will actually start. TheRead More developer had requested an extension from the board at a previous meeting and we do not know of a firm start date. When we do receive one, we will most certainly publish it.
