Second-grade student Katelyn Gayson from in the Mineola School District recently served as Principal for a Day, an honor she won through a raffle on the school’s Bingo Night.
Over the course of the day, Katelyn helped out “acting” Principal Devra Small, assisting her in writing a few memos and joining her for classroom visits.
The second grader learned how to observe what the students are learning and to ask questions of them as she walked around the building.

When Mrs. Small had to go to a meeting at the end of the day, she was able to count on Katelyn to make the dismissal announcement over the P.A. system.
Katelyn said her favorite part of the day was visiting her own class.
