Williston Park Resident Receives Language Competition Award

St. Mary's High School student Valerie Washburn takes first with foreign language essay.

A Williston Park resident recently took first place in a foreign language essay competition for high school students.

Saint Mary’s High School senior Valerie Washburn received the award for her entry in the Long Island Language Teachers Foreign Language (LILT) Competition 2012, Written Original Essay category.

This category had an assigned essay topic: “Cell Phones, My Right or Not?"

Washburn’s 200-word essay won first place in Division C, grades 10-12, non-native speakers' category.

She has been studying Spanish at the Manhassed-based Catholic school under the instruction of Mrs. Linda Lipani.
