Google Music Is Here (Finally)

Google's music service has finally arrived. Google Music Beta was announced at the Google I/O conference on May 10, 2011

Hooray! Google’s music service has finally arrived. Google Music Beta was announced at the Google I/O conference on May 10, 2011.

The site is currently invite-only, but you can go there now and request a Google Music Beta invite for yourself (you’ll need a Google account to request the invite).

What is Google Music Beta?

“Music Beta is a new service from Google that gives you instant access to your personal music collection without the hassle of wires or syncing. Add your music collection and listen on the web or any compatible Android device”

We have included a video [below] which details exactly what Google Music is and what it’s all about. Free “for a limited time”, the Google Music service will be available starting on Android devices (phones, tablets, etc) and via a web interface.

Google Music looks to be a trimmed down iTunes cousin without the availability to purchase music, yet.  However, you will have the ability to create playlists, edit track info, see play counts, etc.

The ability to actually buy music, through a store of some sort as with iTunes, may have been a major reason for the delay in the launch of the new service. Google has been working with music/record labels trying to work out a deal which just doesn’t seem to be working out.  Stay tuned though as some sort of deal seems to be imminent.

Update May 11 – check out some screen-shots of the Music Beta product.
