Owners of combo yoga, pilates and zumba studio talk about goals for business.

Two years ago, the Zumba-centric fitness studio “Body in Balanceopened its doors in Mineola at 258 B Herricks Road. Owners Susan McGurn and Maria Ochakovsky-Gomez recently celebrated their two-year anniversary in the village of offering yoga, pilates, zumba and “therapeutic medical massage.”

What is your overall goal and mission statement for the business?

To offer classes for all fitness levels in a non competitive environment and to teach people the healing art of yoga and pilates to all, regardless of their age or skill level. Our goal is to preserve the body long term and to teach a lifestyle that continues on and off the yoga mat and translate it into everyday life. We offer a safe and nurturing learning environment which results in emotional, physical and spiritual growth. Classes include yoga, barre, pilates mat and apparatus. We offer private, semi private and group classes.

What is each of your backgrounds?

We are both owners and certified instructors, both have a passion for health & fitness with many years experience teaching in the fitness industry. We bring their passion and enthusiasm to create a mind body experience for everyone. The yoga and pilates styles they offer include Yoga Tune Up (therapeutic yoga), and Pilates through a contemporary approach utilizing both small and large apparatus. In addition, the studio holds classes in barre.

What is one of your most fulfilling experiences/stories as a business owner?

Since we have been open for operation in the past 2 years we are fulfilled when our customers express the results they experience from the services we offer. We have a wide range of customers from very conditioned to post rehabilitation. The greatest reward is to see someone improve their quality of life when they are as fully committed as we are in helping them achieve their goals.
