CHAMP! Chaminade’s McCormack Takes State Bowling Title

Flyer teammates take first and third in individual state competition.

John McCormack has another trophy to add to his collection: state champion. The bowler added the individual title this past Saturday at the state bowling championships in Buffalo.

McCormack edged out St. Joseph’s (Beffalo) player Kevin Bienko 228-215 in the final match, with teammate John Lindgren finishing third.

Bienko was the No. 1 seed with a 933 pin total after a four-game series in the first round before the elimination matches. McCormack was seeded second with 925.

“This was a great way to go out,” the Flyer senior told Newsday. “Exciting; I'd never experienced anything like this before.”

Amazingly, McCormack took the spot of No. 1 CHSAA bowler in the state in just his second year on the Flyers’ squad, but has been bowling since he was seven.
