10th Annual SUNY Old Westbury Summer Polo Match & Lawn Party Benefit

The State University of New York (SUNY) College at Old Westbury will host its 10th Annual Summer Polo Match and Lawn Party on Sunday, June 26, 2011 from 2:30pm to 6:00 pm at Hickox Field in Old Westbury. This championship polo tradition raises funds to support academic and programmatic enhancements at the College, while also honoring those who advocate for the preservation of Long Island’s open spaces.

Tickets are $95 per person, with children under the age of 12 admitted at no charge. Tables can be purchased for $900 each, and space will also be available for tailgaters at $50 per carload.

As it has since its inception, this year’s polo match will be provided by Meadowbrook Polo Club, the oldest polo club in America.  The afternoon events will be fully catered with a buffet lunch and fine wines from local Long Island vintners. A children’s tent with an array of activities for toddlers to pre-teens will also be available on-site for families to visit.

In addition to the polo match, the 2011 Theodore Roosevelt Preservation Award will be presented to Steve Bellone, Supervisor of the Town of Babylon. The Theodore Roosevelt Preservation Award was created in 2004 to honor individuals and organizations that are committed to conservation efforts and causes for future generations. Two other awards will be given out to local Long Island residents including the Alumni Leadership Award to Marie (Mea) Knapp, a 1977 graduate of the College and counsel to the law firm of Germano & Cahill, and the Ed Wrigley Horsemanship Award to Marianne (Bunny) Steelman, instructor for Long Island Riding for the Handicapped Association.

“We’re looking forward to honoring our tradition of commitment to the community and its preservation on beautiful open polo grounds once again,” said SUNY College at Old Westbury President Calvin O. Butts, III. “Year after year we’ve been thrilled to recognize extraordinary alumni and local citizens during this family event. The 10th anniversary polo match, lawn party and celebration will be an action-packed afternoon full of entertainment and inspiration for everyone who is able to join us.”
