The NYS Empire Games for the Physically Challenged started in 1985. Last year the State cut the funding and Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano put together a committee to raise the funds to save the Games. The Games showcase the talents of 1,100 athletes with disabilities, ages 5 to 21.

Since the beginning, the Henry Viscardi School has had team athletes compete.
