Flyers Swim to Second Place in CHSAA

Nine Chaminade swimmers reach state swimming championships.

While Fordham Prep again took the top combined score with 839.5 in the CHSAA City Championship swimming finals Sunday at the Nassau Aquatic Center in Eisenhower ParkChaminade managed to beat out St. Anthony’s for second place by a score of 670.5-654.

Senior Emmett Johnson was Chaminade’s only first-place winner, turning in a time of 46.59 in the 100-yard freestyle.

There will be nine members of the Flyers’ squad going to the state championships: junior Liam Cashin (200-yard freestyle – 1:46.09); senior Mike Conroy (100-yard Butterfly – 53.85); sophomore Christian Foti (500-yard freestyle – 4:53.77); junior Mike Cashin (100-yard backstroke – 54.73); and Johnson in the 50-yard freestyle (21.64).

In the relay events, seniors Nicholas Teri, Conroy, Johnson and sophomore Peter Ganley made the cut for the state meet in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.21. Meanwhile, Conroy, Mike and Liam Cashin and Johnson made the cut for the 400-yard freestyle relay with 3:13.86.
