Flyers Tennis Serves Up Victory to Start 2011 Season
Chaminade shuts out St. Dominic's 7-0 to start out season.
The varsity tennis team is heading into this season four time defending playoff champions. Could a fifth one be too much to ask?
“After losing three of our key players we are going to be the underdog this season next to St. Anthony’s,” head coach Jim Quinn said Tuesday afternoon.
It’s not a role the Flyers are used to playing after being so dominant in conference the past few years.

After losing their first and second singles players and their first doubles team to graduation one can see why they might take a step down from being the favorites.
The Flyers opened up the 2011 season Tuesday against St. Dominic’s at looking like a team that left off where they started in 2010: with a shutout of the Bayhawks 7-0 in match play.

First singles Rich DeGregoris won 6-0, 6-1. Second singles Eric Lobben won 6-2, 6-3 and third singles Will Brosnan won 6-2, 6-0.
The doubles teams had little trouble with their opponents with the second and third doubles getting straight set bagels.
“We are still in sort of tryout mode,” Quinn said. “None of the positions in either singles or doubles are set yet.”
The Flyers’ best player, J.T. Esposito – who was voted playoff MVP last year – was playing doubles in this match.
“We still have a lot of depth on our team,” said Quinn. “But we won't be the overall favorite like we were the past 4 years.”
The Flyer's next match will be on Friday at home against St. Mary's at 4 p.m.
