Fordham Falls to Flyers Lacrosse 16-9

After first loss of season last week, Chaminade bounces back against Fordham Prep.

For , Tuesday was about reasserting their dominance on the lacrosse field.

Coming off a heartbreaking  where they scored three times in the final 30 seconds but fell short on the final faceoff of the game, the Flyers let loose on the Rams of Fordham Prep, outscoring them 16-9 at .

“Defensively, we were a step off,” Chaminade head coach Jack Moran said of the matchup against the Lions. “We won 90 percent of the face-offs and kept the ball most of the game.”

Despite allowing 9 goals – the most so far this season against any opponent – the Flyer offense simply overwhelmed their opponents, swarming the Rams whenever possible.

Still sitting pretty with atop the CHSAA standings with a 7-1 overall record, Chaminade won the opening face-off and dominated the first quarter by controlling the ball and taking advantage of their fast breaks, scoring four unanswered goals.

The Rams, led by Coach Len Delucia and Captains Chris Smith, Matt Casella, Tom Whelan, and Joe Regan, fought their way back before the half by putting in 4 goals against Flyers goalie John Connors, bringing the score to 9-4 by the end of the half.

Connors, who had six saves, had to leave the game in the third with an injured right shoulder.  Junior Joseph Faria Jr. stepped in and finished the game with six saves of his own.

Though they had opportunities in the second half, Fordham Prep could not capitalize.

Chaminade attackman Shane Thornton and mid-fielder Sean Mahon tied for most goals at 3 a piece for the Flyers.

The Flyers face Fairfield Prep on Tuesday, April 26.
