Lady Mustangs Trample Oyster Bay 46-23

Samantha Venus scores 15 as Mineola locks up victory in first quarter.

The Lady Mustangs got off to a strong start against Oyster Bay in an out of league game Thursday morning at . 

Mineola made it a one sided affair putting together a big 15-4 first quarter on account of two 3 point shots by eighth grader Samantha Venus.

The team continued their assault, taking an 18-9 halftime lead and turning it into a 46-23 victory.

Score: Mineola – 46,  Oyster Bay – 23

Heroes: Samantha Venus who had a game high 15 points. She had four three pointers in the game. Kalie and Kerri Medlock were a force inside the paint with Kerri collecting 10 rebounds and Kalie 7.

Turning Point: The first quarter. The Lady Mustangs got off to a quick start taking a 15-4 commanding lead. Oyster Bay was never able to get back in the game. They had open shot opportunities but were not able to convert.

Quotable: "It was a great game and everybody contributed," head coach Denise Zunno said. "There are no all-stars on this team but we play like a team and that is what important. We help each other out on the court which has given us the 6-1 record."

Bottom Line: Mineola got ahead by large margin and Oyster Bay was never able to cut into it. There were a lot of turnovers from both teams but Oyster Bay could not covert turnovers into offensive points.

Key Stat: The Medlock sisters were dominant on the boards collecting a total 17 rebounds.
