Mineola 10U Intramural Baseball Crushes Malverne 21-5

Mineola pitching only allows two hits in blowout win.

On Saturday, Sept. 17, the (MAA) fall 10U intramural baseball team traveled to to pick up their first win of the season, defeating Malverne 21-5.

Mineola opened the game with a big first inning as Patrick Solosky, Kieran O’Gara and Kenny Solosky all drew walks to open the game. Derek Lekhwani then drove in a run with a single up the middle while Nick Ramirez followed with a 2 RBI single. After loading the bases again with walks, Nick Librandi plated a RBI and Pat Lanigan drove in two more runs with a double to left field.

The Mineola lineup continued to pound Malverne in the third as Kenny Solosky and Lekhwani led off the inning with singles and Nick Ramirez then drove in two more RBI’s with a single to right. Lanigan then blasted a double onto the left field gap netting him two more RBI’s.

In the fourth, Mineola scored the first run of the inning playing “small ball”: after Isaiah Roman drew a walk to start the inning, Roman stole second. A pair of perfectly executed sacrifices by Ryan Burke and Aidan Tice scored Roman. After again loading the bases with walks, Solosky drove in two RBI’s with a double to left center. Lekhwani and Ramirez drove in the two remaining runs with singles.

In Mineola’s fifth, Tommy Curry, Roman, Ryan Burke and Andrew Geagher (2 RBI’s) completed Mineola’s scoring. Geagher finished the game with 3 RBI’s.

Defensively, Mineola turned in an error-free game with Lanigan, Ramirez, Librandi, Solosky and Matt Echausse making plays in the field to help thwart any potential threat from Malverne.

Mineola starting pitcher Matt Echausse struck out the side to start the game and was followed on the mound by Curry, Librandi, Lekhwani, Joshua Giron and the Solosky brothers, Patrick and Kenny, respectively, to close the game. Combined Mineola pitching only allowed two hits to Malverne in the entire game.

“After a tough , I was very proud of the boy’s and how they bounced back,” Manager Ken Solosky said. “They came out aggressively and played very fundamentally sound baseball. It is always nice when you have such a team effort in winning a game.”
