The Mineola varsity basketball team increased their winning streak to four this past Friday night with a 62-38 drubbing of Island Trees.
The Mustangs took an early lead over the last-place Bulldogs (1-13, 0-9) using their passing skills and a constantly moving defense.
“(We) played good team basketball,” Mineola head coach Jim Hegmann said.

Mustang guard Brian Gaffney made a recovery to start the third, going coast to coast for his only score in the paint, also contributing a pair from behind the arc as well.
Fast breaks continued in the second half, as the hapless Bulldogs employed a heavier backcourt defense to no avail as Breslin drew a foul shot and a field goal at the buzzer to help push the deficit 52-28.
The Mustangs (10-4, 7-1) now sit in second place in the standings and will face conference rival Seaford (7-7, 5-4) in a home game this Friday.
