Mineola Boys Basketball Clinches Share of Conference Championship
Mustangs run wild over Valley Stream North, 78-63 in final regular season game.
Brian Gaffney kept saying that Mineola wanted to win the A-IV conference championship this year.
They now have a piece of it, being crowned co-champions along with West Hempstead by virtue of their 78-63 win over Valley Stream North on Monday afternoon at home.
They finished the 2012-13 regular season with a 9-2 conference record and will face Lynbrook Friday afternoon in the first round of the playoffs.

Against Valley Stream North the Mustangs got off to a quick start in the game taking an early 9-4 lead thanks to three point field goals from Mike Waszychuk and Malcolm Brown. The two senior guards both had sensational games with Waszychuk scoring a team-high 32 points and Brown scoring 21.
Both players helped Mineola gain a 47-26 halftime lead, cruising to the finish line in the second half.

Valley Stream North was not able to cut into Mineola's double digit lead despite stellar shooting performances from Senior, Anthony Martelli (19 points) and Junior, Aaron Bonitto (32 points.)
“We played great and shot the ball well today, no doubt about it,” Mineola head coach Jim Heggman said. “It was the final regular season game and we're in a pretty good position for the playoffs so I told them to have a little fun out there. 78 points is definitely up there for our highest points total this season.”
