Mineola Girls Lacrosse Earns First Win of 2012 Season
Lady Mustangs have blowout 17-8 victory over Wheatley/Carle Place.
The Mineola girls varsity lacrosse team breathed a sigh of relief this past Saturday afternoon, putting an end to a season-long malaise that had hung over them since opening day.
They finally put a ‘1’ in the win column. The Lady Mustangs’ first victory of the year came with a big 17-8 blowout against Wheatley/ Carle Place where every single starter managed to put one inside the net while senior midfielder Kerri Medlock netted five on the day.
“It was good to get our first win in today,” Mineola head coach Frank Massaro said. “Our team has been working hard and we know we're getting better. We have 3 games left on our schedule that are winnable games.”

If the Lady Mustangs play like they did on Saturday, scoring a season high 17 goals, they have a good chance of pulling off their last three games of the season.
Medlock led Mineola (1-5) right out of the gate with four of her goals in the first half of the game while sophomore attacker, Courtney Capobianco had 3 goals and 1 assist. Junior, Natalie Kain had 2 goals in the game. Grace Paldino, Marisa Athan and Nikki each had a goal.

Coach Massaro believes they might even have an outside chance of making the conference playoffs if they win out.
“The odds are obviously stacked against us,” he said. “But if we’re able to win out and a couple of other teams lose we might have an outside chance.”
