Mineola Lacrosse Streak Snapped by Seahawks

Cold Spring Harbor pummels Mustangs net in 14-4 rout.

By Gary Simeone

There is a reason that the Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks are the No. 1 seeded team lacrosse team in Conference C: they are a talented, feisty bunch who jumps on their opponents early and never takes their foot off the gas pedal.

That is exactly what they did to Mineola on Friday afternoon at Hampton Field, scoring six first-quarter goals en route to a dominant 14-4 victory and ending the Mustang win streak.

Throughout the game the Seahawks showed why they were the better team keeping constant pressure on the Mineola defense and barraging goalkeeper John Clancy with shot after shot on goal. Clancy had 13 saves in the game.

It wasn’t until midway through the second quarter that the Mustangs were able to get on the board scoring two goals off the sticks of Attackmen, James Gerstner and Kyle Dunleavy. But 6-2 would be as close as Mineola would get as Cold Spring Harbor rattled off two more goals to take an 8-2 lead into halftime.

The second half was more of the same as Cold Spring Harbor scored four third quarter goals and lengthened their lead to 12-2 going into the fourth quarter.
Gerstner lead the scoring for the Mustangs with two goals in the game. Kyle Dunleavy and Josh Lopes each had one goal while junior Tim Gill had one assist.

Justin McBride, Jordan Walter and Frank Stubbolo had three goals each for the Seahawks.

Mineola will play at MacArthur in an out of conference match up on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
