Mineola Lightning Softball Improves to 5-1

Mineola girls take rout of Carle Place and edge Garden City.

Mineola Lightning keeps rolling along with two wins this weekend, to improve their record to 5-1 and sole position of first place in the Merillon League.

In their first game on Friday, the Lightning routed Carle Place at Wills Ave Field by a score of 19-2. The Lightning were led by the bats of Christina Crecco (two triples and three RBI), Emily Haller (three runs scored and one hit), Samantha Hackenjos (three runs scored, three rbi and two hits), Kaitlyn Wetzel (three hits, two RBI,and four runs scored), Sarah Carbain (two runs scores and a hit), Victoria DeFrancis (two hits and a RBI), Natalie Pusateri (two hits and two runs scored), and Miranda Bradley (two runs scored). On the mound Carbain, Haller and Wetzel combined for 15 strikeouts.

On Sunday at Mineola High School, the Lightning held on to a 11-10 victory over Garden City. In the victory the Lightning where led at the plate by Lexi Cicalese who hit a home run and scored two runs, Ashely Sandoval (single and a run scored), Jillian Haller (single and a run scored), Hackenjos (two-run triple) and Kaitlyn Wetzel (a double). In the field the Lightning where led by good defensive plays by Mia Orefice, Tara Orefice and Caroline Muessig.
