Mineola Native Left off MLS Expansion Draft Roster

Red Bulls defender Carlos Mendes could be selected by new Montreal team.

Veteran Red Bulls Defender Carlos Mendes, could face the possibility that he might not be playing for New York next season.

According to a report on Big Apple Soccer, the professional soccer team chose not to place the 30-year old Mineola native on its protected roster ahead of Wednesday’s expansion draft for the newest team, the Montreal Impact, which will select 10 players during the 10-round draft.

Mendes, who earlier this year , is the only member of the Red Bulls who remains from when the team was known as the MetroStars before it was purchased in 2006 from the Anschutz Entertainment Group.

The full list of selected players will be announced Wednesday at 3 p.m. and streamed live on MLSsoccer.com and MontrealImpact.com.

UPDATE: 5:00 p.m.: Mendes was not one of those selected in the expansion draft to join the nw Montreal team.
