Mineola senior Emily Skupp found herself in last Thursday on the new field at : a tie game, a runner in scoring position and herself in the batter’s box.
For the second time in as many games the lefty Lady Mustang had to help her own cause, this time against Oyster Bay, who managed to erase a 4-0 deficit over the course of 7 innings that Skupp stood in the pitcher’s circle.
Mineola leftfielder Christina Palmenteri had managed to belt a one-out triple into the outfield to bring up Skupp. The Mineola starter managed again to come up big, belting a double for the 6-5 win and keep the Lady Mustangs in first place with a 4-0 conference record and 5-0 overall in a tie with Levittown Division.
Skupp went 3-for-4 with two RBI including the game winner and a stolen base in addition to the complete game. Palmenteri went 4-for-4, scoring each time and was only a home run away from the cycle.
