The Mineola defense did not allow a touchdown and in fact held Oyster Bay to 58 yards of total offense and two first downs – no first downs in the first half. Offensively, Brian Gaffney scored three touchdowns – two runs and a catch – while quarterback Rob Clarkin threw two touchdown passes.
Turning Point: The Mustangs fed off the energy of the Homecoming crowd and took it to Oyster Bay from the beginning. Mineola scored on its first possession, forcing Oyster Bay go three-and-out on its initial possession and then scored on its second series to go up 14-0.

Bottom Line: When Mineola is squarely focused it can play with anyone in the conference. The game seemed like a laugher in the first quarter after the Mustangs went up 14-0. The one caveat: they need to finish a game better than they have.
Quotable: “Our defense was outstanding,” Mineola head coach Dan Guido said. “They didn’t move the ball against us.”

Hero: The entire defense deserves kudos for completely stifling the Oyster Bay running game. The Baymen’s only 2 first downs were on passes. Joe Massaro impressed with his sure-handed tackling and coverage.
Offensively, Brian Gaffney scored on runs of one and 50 yards and also caught a beautifully thrown 32-yard pass from quarterback Rob Clarkin. The senior, who if given time has shown he has a great touch, also tossed a TD pass to sure-handed Nico Pantelides.
Key Stat: No Oyster Bay first downs in the first half, and two in the game.
Who's Next: The Mustangs host Roosevelt next Saturday in a 3 p.m. game at Hampton Stadium (the later start is because of morning testing).
