Mustangs March over Valley Stream North 30-23

Steve Napolitano leads charge with 173 rushing yards.

The Mustangs opened their season in dominant fashion yesterday, defeating Valley Stream North 30-23 at Hampton Street Stadium. Mineola came out with 14 points scored in the first quarter on two drives from Brian Gaffney and Steve Napolitano from five and 25-yards out respectively.  

Mineola (1-0) QB Rob Clarkin was 8/13 or 104 yards with a touchdown, and was not picked off in the game. Steve Napolitano led the overall rushing game with 173 yards over 15 attempts and two touchdowns for the Mustangs.

Valley Stream got on the board in the second with a 19-yard run, but the Mustangs answered back with a 30-yard field goal off the foot of kicker Tom Breslin and a 70-yard touchdown run from Napolitano. Breslin was 1/1 on the day with one kick sailing between the uprights on three attempts.

Clarkin hooked up with Nico Pantelides five times for 103 yards, the last ending in a 17-yard touchdown in the fourth. Valley Stream (0-1) battled back in the fourth, scoring 16 points off Mustang defense on two touchdowns and two two-point conversions.
