Titans Topple Chaminade Basketball 56-51

Holy Trinity trails Flyers by one game with two left on regular season schedule.

The  varsity basketball team fell to rival Holy Trinity Tuesday 56-51, setting up uncertainty about their eventual playoff seeding.  The loss drops the Flyers to 7-3 in their league and 16-5 on the season.

The Titans are now 13-10 overall on the season with a 7-4 in the CHSAA, two games behind the Flyers. Chaminade has two games left on its regular schedule, a against  and another round with still-undefeated . Both are being played at Chaminade’s home court. A Flyer win Tuesday would have clinched them second place behind St. Mary’s.

Chaminade was led Tuesday by sharp shooter Kevin Sheehy who had 17 points.  Senior center Richard Zoller nabbed a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

After a shaky start in the first quarter, the Flyers rallied to cut Trinity's lead to just one point. Sheehy began hitting treys, ratting off four for the night but unfortunately the Flyers had no answer for Holy Trinity's Tyler Seidman, who had eight baskets from behind the arc in the game.

A defensive battle ensued in the second quarter as the Titan defense held the Flyers to 9 total points, sending Chaminade into the lockers trailing 33-29.

A Titan offense exploded out in the third as senior captain Seidman continued to pound the Flyers on his way to a 30 point night.

Chaminade guard Matthew Gonyon was the unsung hero of the night hitting a three to open the fourth quarter to inspire a brief Flyers run forcing several turnovers.  Big shots by both Gonyon and Sheehy pulled the Flyers within five and a pair of free throws by the 6’8” Zoller made the deficit three three.

The Flyers had a shot to force overtime with nine seconds left on the clock when Sheehy drove on his man and pulled up for a three at the buzzer but rimmed out.

I'm sorry Marie but there is no information about when the project will actually start. TheRead More developer had requested an extension from the board at a previous meeting and we do not know of a firm start date. When we do receive one, we will most certainly publish it.
