A winter snow storm set to wallop most of the New York-Connecticut area is expected to glance Long Island, with most of the heavy snow expected to fall north and west of the region.

According to the National Weather Service, the snow will arrive in the early afternoon on Saturday, sending 1 to 3 inches across Long Island. An additional 1 to 3 inches could fall later in the day before changing to rain after 10 p.m.

That's a significantly lower forecast than for New York City, Westchester County and other areas in Connecticut that are under a winter storm watch. Those areas could see between 6 to 10 inches of snow.

Temperatures on Long Island are expected to hover around 30 degrees throughout Saturday.

On Sunday, there’s a slight chance of rain before 9 a.m. with high temperatures reaching 42 degrees.
