15th Annual Celebration of the Long Pond Greenbelt

Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt, the South Fork Natural History Museum, and the Peconic Land Trust invite the family to enjoy and celebrate the beautiful fall colors of the Greenbelt at the SoFo Natural History Museum in Bridgehampton.

The day will include games, crafts, and hikes, starting at 10 a.m. Take a migratory bird walk with naturalist, birder, and published author John Turner, a reptile hike with “Snake-Man” Chris Chapin, enjoy a nature puppet show with Goat on a Boat, meet live animals from the Quogue Wildlife Refuge and more. Free for all.

Hispanic Heritage Festival in Huntington

Huntington's third annual Hispanic Heritage Festival will feature vendors, entertainers and organizations setting up at Manor Field Park. Friends of Huntington Station Latin Quarter is planning the event, with the theme, "Immigration and Our Community," which will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Roller Derby

The Strong Island Derby Revolution is back in action at World Gym Setauket. Join them for their battle against the Jerzey Derby Brigade - no, that's not a typo, it's Jerzey - on Saturday at 8 p.m. ($10-$15; kids under 8 free). Port Jeff Brewing Co. will be serving cold beer and there will be halftime entertainment.

Long Island Apple Festival

Head down to Sherwood-Jayne Farm in East Setauket for the annual Long Island Apple Festival on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., featuring a pie contest, games, fresh apple cider and more. Admission $5-$7.

The Rangers are Headed to Long Beach

New York Rangers alumni and city officials will participate in a special exhibition hockey game, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, a celebratory event that will follow a ribbon cutting, family skating session and free hockey clinic starting at 3 p.m.

The event is all part of the reopening of the Long Beach Ice Arena, which was battered by Sandy.

Matteau! Matteau! Matteau! Stephane will be there.

Merrick's Turn to Party

Last week, Bellmore at its huge festival. Now the rides and fun move to nearby Merrick, where its chamber hosts the 23rd Annual Fall Festival this weekend.
The event will begin on Friday with rides only at the Merrick railroad station from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The Long Island Fair

The Long Island Fair in Old Bethpage has a weekend of fun scheduled.

There is a puppet show, magicians and a corn husking contest.

The Arts Alive Festival

The celebration runs through October, but if you're looking for an event this week: The Long Island African-American Heritage Parade and Festival is on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Roosevelt and Hempstead. Check out the link for more information.

Arts Below Sunrise

The Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools Endowment Fund this Sunday will once again host Arts Below Sunrise, a street fair along Broadway.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be carnival games and music, with two stages in the parking lot at Johnson Place to reduce time between acts.


Meet the Mets, Meet the Mets ...

The baseball season in New York ends Sunday.

If you're looking to make one last trip to a ballgame, head to Citi Field, where the Mets will induct Mike Piazza into their Hall of Fame.
