Catch 38 Special – the Southern rock band that brought us “Hold On Loosely,” “Rockin’ Into the Night,” “Caught Up in You,” – at The Paramount in Huntington. Friday, 8 p.m. Tickets: $52.50-$90.25 (includes fees).

Join Laura Shepard and Dr. Aline Euler for a winter walk at Alley Pond Environmental Center in Douglaston at 12 p.m., and learn all about trees and wildlife in January. Admission: Free. Learn more. 

Hone your winter survival skills at the Sands Point Preserve Saturday by learning how to apply basic outdoor skills and facts. The one-hour program features an indoor presentation and a variety of active outdoor stations, and is appropriate for all ages. Four Sessions: 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Admission: $10 per car, or free with an annual pass. Learn more.

Visit the Garvies Point Museum and Preserve in Glen Cove on Saturday and see “The Legend of The Boy and The Eagle,” the Walt Disney film about a Hopi Indian legend of a boy's love for the tribe's sacred eagle. (21 mins.)11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m. Admission: Adults, $3; children 5-12 years, $2. Learn more. 

Red Baraat brings its North Indian bhangra rhythms mixed with jazz, go-go, brass funk, and hip-hop to Landmark on Main Street in Port Washington on Saturday, 8 p.m. The band’s new album “Shruggy Ji” was dubbed as one of NPR’s top “10 Favorite World Music Records of 2013.” Tickets: $32-$42. Take the kids to see the new Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia production, based on Leo Lionni's Caldecott Honor stories, Swimmy, Inch by Inch and Frederick. The performance features puppet theater, storytelling, imaginative lighting and an original musical score. Tickets: Landmark on Main Street, Port Washington, $15-$18. Sunday, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Learn more. 

See the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Screening of “The Negro and the Amerian Promise” at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria. The hour-long public television special first aired in 1963. Hosted by Dr. Kenneth Clark, the program features Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, James Baldwin. Free with Museum admission on a first-come, first-served basis. Monday, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Admission: $12, adults (18 and older); $9 senior citizens (65 and older; $9 students with valid ID; $6 children (3-12).  Learn more
