The Nassau County Interim Finance Authority (NIFA) was created by the New York State Legislature as a fiscal watchdog in June 2000, following Nassau County's fiscal crisis and $105 million bailout by New York State.
NIFA's primary responsibility is to monitor and oversee the County's finances, but it also has the power to issue bonds and notes for various purposes, including the refinancing of Nassau County's debt. The group also issues reports on the County's proposed and adopted budgets and multi-year financial plans.
The seven-member board is appointed by the Governor and has members recommended by the Senate Majority Leader, the Assembly Speaker and the State Comptroller.

NIFA? One member is the CEO of Wells Fargo. Wow so all the monies that are frozen sits in his bank. What do you think the bank is going to do with this money that is making interest? Maybe they are going to give it to the taxpayers? Another member was a Deputy County Executive during the Suozzi era? Yes the era that put us in this mess. In fact while mister wana be Governor spent the last year and a half in Albany trying to get elected MR Stokes was running the finances of Nassau County. He could not balance the budget then how is he going to do it now. NIFA a bunch of business men that recommend to lay off county workers. WHY? I will tell you why. County workers get paid less than union construction workers. Construction companies that would replace county worker work for a profit. This group of business men that we did not elect owns the construction companies and they will rape all of us. I want to know who is accountable for the decisions NIFA makes. This is unconstitutional and I demand justice. Wake up people the politicians fight and we the people loose. VOTE AGAINST ALL POLITICIANS WHO FIGHT WITH OTHER POLITICIANS. The madness has to stop we have the power!
