Murphy's Bets on New Look

Mineola bar revamps signs after bringing in OTB while assuring fans it is the same old Murphy's.

Murphy's Bar & Grill in Mineola has changed their outside look to subtly reflect some additions on the inside.

Since installing off-track betting stations in the bar, Murphy's decided to revamp their signs to show off the change.

Two machines were installed in June allowing anyone to come into the bar and automatically place a wager on games, races, and matches. Since then, bar goers have been placing bets as they sit with a pint and cheer their favorites on the television screens.

When managers decided to revamp the outside signage at the bar, they designed it with the OTB in mind, staff said. The large, maroon "Murphy's" sign was taken down in July and replaced with two old fashioned swinging signs out front. Emblazoned with the Murphy's logo, they picture a horse in a nod to racing and betting.

While the outside may have changed, staff said they wanted customers to know it was the same old Murphy's with the same drinks and food being served.
