Mineola Man Arrested for Fairfield Avenue Burglary

Matthew Long allegedly broke into home to steal video games.

Nassau County Police have arrested a Mineola resident on charges of breaking into a home on Thursday, Oct. 10.

According to detectives at 12:15 p.m., Mathew Long, 18, allegedly entered a home on Fairfield Avenue in Mineola through a side window in an attempt to steal video games from a friend who lived at the home.

A 33-year old woman who was staying at the residence allegedly confronted Long and he fled the scene with no proceeds.

Long surrendered to detectives and was placed under arrest at 11:05 p.m. 

A member of the Mineola High School Class of 2013, Long was a student athlete who had been a multi-year wrestling champion and set the school's wrestling record with 121 wins.

He is charged with second degree burglary and will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Friday, Oct. 11.
