Mineola Girls Lacrosse Trounced by Titans

It has been a week since the Mineola girls varsity lacrosse team played their last game.

While the Lady Mustangs makde up for the time off with a plethora of goals in a non-league matchup against Holy Trinity Monday afternoon, they were still severely overmatched. The girls ended up scoring 17 goals to match their season high total but it still wasn't enough to beat the Titans who scored 22.

"We got behind early and we were never able to get in front of them," Mineola head coach Frank Massaro said. "We were down 9-7 at one point and 12-10 at halftime. Defensively we need to tighten up and have to work on a couple things in order to get better."

Mineola's top three scorers had a great day with Ashley Stavish scoring 5 goals, Julie Falotico, 5 goals and Courtney Capobianco with 4 goals. The defense was not able to hold up their end of the deal however as they allowed Holy Trinity to score 12 first half and 10 second half goals.

Mineola (0-5, 1-6) will have a good chance to get their second conference win on Wednesday when they host 1-7 Bethpage at 4:30 p.m. On Friday they will face Wheatley at home at 4:30 p.m. They have already beaten the Wildcats once this season.

"This is a chance for us to get a couple of badly needed wins," Massaro said. "We need to take advantage of the opportunities given to us this week."
