You’re time-pressed enough, so we’re happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

1. Bird Banding Demonstration

Where/When:  Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center, Saturday, September 10 from 8 - 9:30 a.m.

Why Go:  Kids, over age 12, will learn how birds are captured and banded, about their health, migration, and ecology, and even have a chance to help with the release of these delicate creatures.

Pricing: $10

Where/When: , Saturday, September 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Join the fun. Come see hot-rods, muscle cars, classics and more at the 5th Annual Knights of Columbus Car Show.

Pricing:Free, however, one can of any nutritional food item donation is suggested.

Where/When: Sands Point Preserve, Saturday and Sunday, September 10 & 11 and 17 & 18 from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Why Go: The popular weekend event, features knights in shining armor, medieval archers and kings and queens.

Pricing: During the Medieval Festival, all visitors to the Sands Point Preserve pay the Festival admission of $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 4 to 14. Children under 4 years of age are free with a parent.

4. Unraveling Nature's Patterns

Where/When: Old Westbury Gardens, Saturday, September 10 at 12:00 p.m.

Why Go: Grab your cameras and explore the organic art of nature in plant and wildlife patterns. Decipher why these mysterious frameworks exist and how they work to nature's advantage. Create your own composition using natural elements collected along our trek. Ages 6 and up.

Pricing:  $10; $5 children 7-17; $8 Seniors; free children 6 and under

Where/When: , Ott Field, Saturday, September 10 at 1:30 p.m.

Why Go: Start the new school year off by cheering on the Flyers as they take on Kellenberg High School in the 2011 season opener.
