You’re time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

1. 

Where/When: , Saturday, April 9 at 10 a.m.

Why Go: Cheer on all the little leaguers to start another fun season.

Pricing: Free

2. FDNY vs. NYPD Hockey

Where/When: Nassau Coliseum, Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m.

Why Go: Root for your favorite team as New York’s Bravest and New York’s Finest go head to head in their annual hockey game. Proceeds help support the FDNY & NYPD Hockey Teams and the charities they sponsor.

Pricing: $20

3. 

Where/When: , Saturday, April 9 from 1 to 4 p.m.; Children’s workshop is at 1 p.m. and the performance is at 3 p.m.

Why Go: The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers celebrate Earth Day with a performance of drumming, songs, dances, and traditional regalia from various Native American peoples. A limited number of children can participate in a workshop with the group prior to the performance.  

Pricing: $7-$15 for the performance; $10 for workshop

4. 

Where/When: , Saturday, April 9 at 3 p.m.

Why Go: Learn more about how engineers construct models of bridges, and discover the various scientific principles of building bridges. Watch a clip of a CYBERCHASE episode as we test the performance of our own models using our knowledge of geometry and space.

Pricing: $3 with museum admission ($2 LICM members)

5. 

Where/When: Nassau County Museum of Art, Sunday, April 10 at 1 p.m. 

Why Go: A very popular program, Family Sunday at the Museum, offers supervised art activities for youngsters and the adults in their lives – family gallery talks and family-friendly gallery guides. The gallery talks begin at 1 p.m. followed by an art activity at 1:30 p.m.

Pricing: Free with museum admission!
