Irish Dance Icon Given ‘Golden’ Tribute

Former students return to help celebrate birthday of Danny Golden.

The Mineola Irish-American Center hosted a tribute to Irish dance icon Donny Golden this past Friday night as part of the annual fundraiser for his self-named dance school and his 60th birthday celebration.

Many of Golden's former students returned for the occasion according to Irish Central, including Sheila Ryan of Louisianna, Sinead Lawlor of Dublin and Cara Butler from Toronto with her husband Jon Pilatzke.

The Golden School of Dancers also gave performances on the dance floor.

Golden was given a National Heritage Award in 1995 by President Bill Clinton for his cultural contributions and also served as the grand marshall for the 2011 St. Patrick's Day Parade in Mineola when it made its return to the village.
