Patch Picks: 2011 Summer Concerts

Mark your calendars for outdoor musical fun this summer.

Although the summer series in the Town of North Hempstead is not yet finalized, here are five suggestions for local entertainment as part of the Patch Picks’ summer series.

Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra

To kick off the summer, the Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra will be coming back to Mineola as part of their 28th summer concert season. They will perform twice this summer (in case you miss the first or have so much fun you want to go back) and perform different selections from their summer series. The orchestra is led by Louis Panacciulli, Pops conductor since 1984. They will be playing primarily light classical mixed with some more popular music.

Slippery When Wet” A Bon Jovi Tribute

Formed in 2003, the cover band members are often confused for “looking and sounding like Jon Bon Jovi.” This summer they will be coming to Nassau County to perform at .

“Asbury Park” The Music of Bruce Springsteen

Not to be confused with Springsteen’s popular hits, this cover band will be coming to Long Island this summer to celebrate the music of “The Boss.”

Robbi K & Friends

Each year Robbi K makes a stop at Clark Botanic Gardens to perform for local residents. She caters to a younger age group while she shares songs, dances and tells stories. Robbi K’s wide selection of music teaches children about culture and how music can sound different around the world.

  • Performance Date: August 2 at 10 a.m.
  • Where: Clark Botanic Garden

Jones Beach Band Shell

Jones Beach is not just about the sun and fun during the day. In the summer, many nights are filled with different activities and concerts to go to. Themed parties, dance lessons and tribute bands are just a few of the summertime festivities that take place.

The “bandshell” has been a summer highlight for many local residents and provides a free night of entertainment.* One of the cover bands plays throw back music from Motown while other bands tribute the Allman Brothers and Van Halen.
