Winthrop Hosts 26th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

Numerous residents, neighbors and local officials converged on the small courtyard in front of Winthrop-University Hospital November 30 for a ceremony to usher in the Christmas season at the hospital’s 26th annual tree lighting ceremony.

Those in attendance were treated to a performance from the Mineola High School Concert Singers, who have become a staple of the tree-lighting ceremony under the direction of Meg Messina. and Edward Travaglianti, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors at Winthrop.

“The annual tree lighting ceremony has been a long tradition at Winthrop that I am proud to continue,” Winthrop CEO John Collins said.

Helping to light the tree was Miah Campbell, a pediatric patient who flipped the switch to illuminate the 1,280 nine-watt bulbs on the 55-ft. Norway Spruce.

The Mineola High School Concert Singers continued their performance after the ceremony in various areas of the hospital for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy.
