“You Are Here” Feature Film And Panel Discussion on Alzheimer’s

Winthrop-University Hospital has just announced some exciting news: they will be hosting a unique event highlighting Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia and other cognitive impairments on Thursday, May 10.

The event will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with a pre-film informational fair of community resources held at the Dr. Martin Spatz Conference Center, located in the lower level of the main Hospital at 259 First Street in Mineola, followed by a feature film at 7 p.m. Writer-director/filmmaker Tim Jeffreys, will introduce the film, a 78-minute drama, “You Are Here,” depicting one woman’s journey with early onset Alzheimer’s, followed by an interactive panel discussion.

“Although the movie focuses on early-onset Alzheimer’s, it brings to light the challenges patients and families face when dealing with cognitive issues,” Winthrop said in a statement. “The event will educate attendees about Alzheimer’s, promote public awareness of the disease and provide support for those who are dealing with these challenges – at any stage of life or of the disease.”

Admission is free and open to the public, though space is limited and reservations are required.
