Help Wanted: Stepping to Front of the Class

It's mid-July and the new school year may seem a long way off if you're a student. Or a parent. But for those looking for education jobs, deadlines are at hand for many fall openings.

Here are a few listed this week.

Assistant Professor of English, Molloy College
College seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor of English position with a specialty in digital writing. Teaching load of 12 credits per semester.  Courses include writing for media, digital writing, freshman composition, advanced composition and possibly introductory literature courses. Will initiate and recruit for the department's anticipated new writing concentration.  Willingness to teach day, evening, and/or weekend courses. Teaching begins fall 2014. 

Chorus Teacher, Farmingdale School District
Anticipated vacancy for substitute chorus teacher (high school level). May be long term (4-5 month) assignment. Responsibilities include Mixed Chorus, rotation lessons, All County and All State preparation. Experienced preferred.

Women's Assistant Lacrosse Coach, St. Joseph's College
Responsible for working individually and in small groups on skill development (shooting, dodging, feeding, re-defending, etc) for attack and middies, teaching advanced skills and possibly warming up of the goalies. Other responsibilities may include assisting the head coach in what is needed; working side by side with the other assistant coach; warming up of goalies each day, daily attendance records, possible video-taping or press box stats of a select few games, evaluation discussions of players, daily locker room supervision.
Job runs for just 15 practices in the fall, then the full spring season. 

Instructional Technology Specialist

Duties:

  • Conduct training sessions at assigned locations
  • Prepare and adapt training materials to a variety of settings;
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new courses.
  • Teach instructors to use instructional technology or to integrate technology with teaching.
  • Adapt instructional content or delivery methods for different levels or types of learners.
  • Develop instruction or training roadmaps for online and blended learning programs.
  • Present and make recommendations regarding course design, technology, and instruction delivery options.
Online Journalism Instructor, Hofstra
Candidates should have experience in developing, designing, reporting and producing for a digital audience. Teaching experience is strongly preferred.

Director, Training and Development, Garden City Group
Duties:
  • Build, support and deliver a talent development strategy that delivers results for GCG. 
  • Conduct effective needs assessment. 
  • Build a culture of successful onboarding by determining position-level curriculum.
  • Formulate teaching outline and conduct training sessions using a variety of instructional methods, such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings and workshops.
  • Select or develop teaching aids
  • Develop and analyze learning metrics to indicate success of all programs relating to employee and client satisfaction and impact on profitability.

  • Neuroscience Faculty, Cold Spring Harbor Lab
    The primary research focus of faculty is neural circuits, including both how they function normally and how their disruption can lead to neuropsychiatric disorders.  CSHL faculty approach questions at the genetic, molecular, developmental, systems, behavioral, computational and theoretical levels. 

    Record of research achievement and the ability to attract significant extramural research support required. Of particular interest to this search are candidates using modern molecular, physiological, and other approaches to study neural circuit development in rodent models. Applicants at the sssistant professor and associate professor level will be considered. 

    Theater Dance Instructor, Five Towns College
    Duties:
    • Teach courses in a variety of styles of theatrical dance
    • Serve as Choreographer for musical theater productions
    • Possibly teach, classes in stage movement.
    Adult Computer Repair Tech, Nassau BOCES
    Teach back to back courses in Computer Repair Technology leading the student toward the CompTIA A+ Certification. In Computer Repair-I (60 hour course).
