Mineola-based business incubator LaunchPad Long Island will be hosting a day-long workshop/ business pitch competition on Saturday, March 9 specifically geared at the college crowd.
The 12-hour event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and is sponsored by CollegeStartup.org, allows college-aged students to compete for a $1,000 cash prize.
The competition involves creating a viable business idea either from scratch or as part of a team consisting of between 3-7 people who will then present that idea in a sales pitch to a panel of business professionals. All attendees do not need to pitch an idea as teams will be formed around the student’s interest in working on start-up concepts.
Students/ teams will also have access to several business professionals who will act as mentors during their brainstorming sessions.
A total of about 40 students from local universities including Hofstra and the Fashion Institute of Technology have already registered.
Students have until Friday to sign up for the competition. The fee is $35 per student.
