Irene’s Aftermath, Part Deux and Cleanup

Cleanup from the aftermath of Hurricane Irene began Monday, with many Mineola residents continuing to assess damage done to their homes and surrounding areas.

In total, the responded to 31 calls on Sunday, many of them downed wires. A full report of the affected areas will be forthcoming in a dedicated fire blotter.

As of Monday night, LIPA is reporting that 1,854 residents still remain without power in the village, with no estimated time of repair listed.

Downed trees and wires were seen near the , blocking Colonial Avenue. Other felled trees were reported by readers on Latham Road – including one that pulled up the sidewalk and part of the street – and a utility pole which as snapped in half.

Village cleanup crews were seen picking up the smaller debris in , but no progress has yet been made on the .
