Benefit Auction for the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program

The Bras Are Back!
Benefit Auction for the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program

Over 100 people—artists, breast cancer survivors and family members and others—have made Creative Cups—ordinary bras transformed into works of art, that will be auctioned on March 15, 2011 to benefit the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program.

The creations, although all made from bras, vary greatly. They are poignant, clever or just beautiful. There’s It’s All about Support by breast cancer survivor Jennifer Montgomery of East Rockaway; the folksy Lessons from Lizzie by quilter Mary Stipe of Northport; and Brah Jongg, made of mah jongg tiles, by Jodi Charak of Roslyn Heights.

Rima Fakih, Miss USA, created the gorgeous CLEAVopatra bra; WCBS radio personality Pat Farnack did a witty BRAdio; and Mary Ann Mearini’s (Valley Stream) Yogi Bra’rer is autographed by the famous Yankee catcher.

These bras and the others will be auctioned on March 15 at Adelphi’s University Center. The doors about at 5:30 pm and the reception and auction will be held from 6 to 8 pm. Ticket’s cost $100.

“This fund raising event has grown in importance,” says breast cancer program director Hillary Rutter. “This year the budget crisis in Albany hit us and we lost a significant amount of funding. We hope to make some of it up with this event through the auction and sponsorships.”

To date, sponsors include Horizon Air Freight, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Foschi, Michael Cohen, The Salvatico Family, Complete Women’s Imaging, Silver Star Auto Resource, Irene Gruska, Soroptomist International of Nassau County, Capell Barnett Matalon & Schoenfeld LLP, Pegalis & Erickson, LLC, Farrell Fritz, PC and Lackmann Culinary Services.

Creative Cups™ celebrates the lives of those living with breast cancer and those we have lost to this terrible disease.
