Elizabeth J. “Betty” Murphy died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at the age of 77 at her Flagler Beach, FL residence.
Murphy was born March 24, 1935 in Queens, NY to John and Catherine Delorey Fox. She lived most of her life in Mineola, NY, and for the majority of her career she was a Director of Religious Education in several parishes for the Rockville Centre Dioceses on Long Island.
After retiring and moving to Flagler Beach in 2005, she became a member of Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church. Her pastimes included water color painting and reading.
She is predeceased by her husband Patrick T. Murphy, whom she married in 1955, died in New York on March 11, 2003. She is survived by her two children, Kerry Murphy of Cape Coral, and Claire Murphy of Orlando, FL: three grandchildren, Sean Patrick Murphy, Erin Elizabeth (Dr. William) Craddock, and Meghan Marie Murphy.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two older sisters, Joan Schmittberger and Kathleen Plonski; and her two older brothers, John Fox and Colonel Tom Fox.
A wake will be held on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road South in Flagler Beach.
Interment will be at Mt. Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Flushing, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made in Murphy’s name to the Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, 915 North Central Avenue, Flagler Beach, FL 32136.
