Winifred B. Smith, 83, Social Security Supervisor

Past president of Blacks in Government passed away on Jan. 25, 2013.

Winifred B. Smith of Queens, New York passed away on Jan. 25, 2013 at the age of 83. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 10, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Elizabeth Blades. 

Winifred was a supervisor for the Social Security Administration in Mineola, Long Island, she retired in 1990. She attended Hunter College, was a member of Blacks in Government and she was the Past President of the LI Chapter. Winifred was an avid reader loved to travel and play bingo.

Smith was married to the late Robert H. Smith Sr., who predeceased her in April 2009. She is survived by her children Robert H. Smith and his wife Minzi of Queens, NY., daughter Jo-Ann E. Jenkins of St. Petersburg Florida and son Frederick J. Smith of Austin Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Paul Featherston and his wife Merritt of Poughkeepsie, Lawrence Featherston and his wife Christine of Beacon, Damon Smith of Jacksonville Fla, David Jenkins Of Fishkill, Christopher Smith of New Jersey and her great grandchildren Matthew Featherston, Gregory Featherston, Keilah Featherston, Lawrence II Featherston, Mark Featherston and Damonia Smith. She was predeceased by her sister and several brothers.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home at 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603. There will be an hour of visitation from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Entombment will follow the service at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemeteries Community Mausoleum.
