Schimel Partners With LIPA for Hurricane Preparedness Seminars

Sessions to be held in Port Washington on August 21.

I am partnering with the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) to hold a daytime Storm Restoration and Hurricane Preparedness Seminar on August 21. A nighttime session will also be held on August 21.

As the 2012 hurricane season begins, I want to make sure that my constituents are prepared for the potential extreme weather events that could directly affect Long Island.

LIPA will explain what residents need to know and how the utility gears up for a major storm. They will also address what happens at their command center during and after a major storm. After the 20-minute presentation LIPA representatives will be on hand to answer storm preparedness and power restoration questions.

Attendees who need electricity for emergency medical and life-support equipment will be able to register with LIPA’s Critical Care Program. Customers enrolled in the Critical Care Program receive advance notice of scheduled outages and severe weather that may cause power outages. If an outage does occur, LIPA will make every effort to restore electric service to program participants as soon as possible.

The daytime seminar will take place at 11 a.m. at the Port Washington Library, 1 Library Drive. The nighttime seminar will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Great Neck Library, 159 Bayville Avenue. All are welcome and reservations are not required.
