Crimes Nearby: Barricaded Man, Hit and Run and Dumpster Arsonist

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

Mineola

A barricaded man had a four-hour standoff with Nassau Police in Mineola Thursday afternoon before being apprehended.

New Hyde Park

A New Hyde Park man was arrested and charged with a hit-and-run as well as DWI this past Sunday in the Southampton hamlet of Water Mill.

Hicksville

A car crashed into a storage container on West John Street on June 29 at 3:42 p.m.

A robbery that occurred on Monday, July 1 at 9:50 a.m. According to detectives, an unknown male white subject, 25 to 30 years of age, medium build, wearing a bright yellow jacket, dark baseball cap, white surgical mask and gloves entered Harry’s Pharmacy at 333 South Broadway. The subject while armed with a handgun demanded Oxycodone from a 44-year old male employee. The subject walked behind the counter and ordered a closed cabinet to be opened. After obtaining several bottles of narcotics the subject fled on foot northbound on Broadway towards Roosevelt Street. Two employees were present at the time of the robbery and no injuries were reported. Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

Four Hicksville residents were arrested following an assault that occurred in New Cassel on Monday, July 01, 2013 at 2:10 a.m. According to detectives, a verbal altercation occurred outside of La Casa Del Marisco at 795 Old Country Road among five men:

  • Inmar Lazo, age 30 of 801 Oliver Avenue New Cassel
  • Enuar Rosales, age 30 of 128 South Fordham Road Hicksville
  • Felix Larios, age 29 of 128 South Fordham Road Hicksville 
  • Manjinder Singh, age 19 of 7 Lottie Avenue Hicksville
  • Kulwinder Gill, age 28 of 14 Townsend Lane Hicksville

The altercation escalated and Lazo while armed with a knife and broken bottle stabbed Rosales in the left calf. Defendants Rosales, Larios, Singh and Gill then stabbed Lazo in the left arm and left hand with a broken bottle and repeatedly punched and kicked him about the head and body. Lazo was transported to an area hospital where he was admitted with non life threatening injuries. Rosales was also removed to a hospital where he was treated for a non life threatening injury. Lazo was charged with second decree assault, second degree menacing and two counts of fourth degree possession of a dangerous weapon. He will be arraigned as soon as medically practical.

Bethpage

A Bethpage man was arrested on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 12:30 a.m. on burglary charges. According to detectives, a 23-year old female victim was at her residence on South Second Street in Bethpage on Monday, July 1, at 10:30 a.m. when Spyridon Mouzakitis, 41, arrived. The defendant and the victim who are known to one another then left together. The victim returned to the residence later the same day and discovered her iPad missing. An investigation determined that the defendant entered the home through an unlocked door and removed the device. Mouzakitis was taken into custody without incident and the iPad was recovered. The defendant was charged with second degree burglary and will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday, July 6.

Franklin Square

A robbery that occurred on July 3, 2013 at 11:50 p.m. in Franklin Square. According to detectives, a 21 year old male victim was jogging along Madison Avenue, when an older model Honda Civic stopped and an unknown male black subject exited the vehicle and asked for directions. When the victim attempted to explain, the subject pointed a black handgun and removed the victims’ wallet from his waist band and proceeded to push the victims’ head into a nearby telephone pole. The subject then re-entered the vehicle and fled the scene northbound on Madison Avenue. Proceeds were an unknown amount of cash. The victim refused medical attention at the scene. The subject is described as a black male, 5’11” approximately 180 pounds. Detectives request anyone with information regarding the above crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.

Garden City

On June 27 unknown persons committed vandalism by removing fireproof coating from support beams in the underground parking garage of the Wyndham condominiums.

Money ($54) was stolen from a vehicle parked on Spruce Street on June 29. Other vehicles on Osborne Road, Old Country Road and Huntington Road were entered and reported the theft of small amounts of change and currency.

On June 30 seven youths were ticketed for being in Community Park after posted hours. Two youths were from West Hempstead, four were from Franklin Square and one from Elmont.

West Hempstead

Nassau County Police said they have arrested a man for allegedly setting fire to four separate dumpsters in West Hempstead.
