Crimes Nearby: Oxycodone Robbery, Identity Theft and Grand Larcenies

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding Mineola.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

Mineola

An accident involving a police car was reported at Winthrop University-Hospital on October 24 at 12:35 p.m.

Roslyn Heights

A truck overturned in the eastbound HOV lane on the Long Island Expressway on October 20 at 3:48 p.m., closing all eastbound lanes near exit 39. The lanes were reopened at about 6:17 p.m.

Roslyn

A gas leak occurred at Northern Boulevard and Town Path on October 20 at 2:24 p.m. Traffic was shut down in both directions in the area from Glen Cove Road to Chestnut Drive while crews repaired the leak.

Great Neck

A Brooklyn woman was arrested for a grand larceny that occurred from October 18-20 in Great Neck. According to detectives, Nadia Cesar, 33, who was employed as a home health care aide from the Salem Home Care Agency in Valley Stream, worked at the victim’s Vista Drive residence to care for her elderly father. The victim, realizing that over the course of the three days that Cesar had worked there, question her as to missing cash and jewelry valued over $175,000, which she denied any knowledge of. After reporting the theft, a follow up investigation by detectives and the subsequent questioning of the defendant revealed the Cesar did in fact steal from the victim. She was then arrested at her home without incident and the victim’s jewelry was recovered. Cesar is charged with second degree grand larceny and was arraigned on October 27 in First District Court in Hempstead.

Old Westbury

A car overturned on the campus of SUNY Old Westbury on October 24 at 1:53 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Westbury

A car collided with a tree at 655 Merrick Ave. on October 21 at 8:32 p.m. with a fire in the car. A 23 year old male driver was transported to Nassau University Medical Center with a possible head injury. Merrick Avenue was shut down in front of Micro Center. Crime scene detectives were requested to the scene.

A car accident occurred on the on-ramp off Old Country Road to the Meadowbrook State Parkway on October 22 at 7:42 p.m. Injuries were reported at the scene.

A car accident was reported at Glen Cove Road and IU Willets Road on October 23 at 12:52 p.m. Multiple injuries were reported.

A car overturned on Stewart Avenue and Salisbury Park Drive on October 24 at 2:24 p.m. No pin was reported. 

A New Cassel woman was arrested for grand larceny which occurred on October 25, at 4:09 p.m. in Westbury. According to detectives, on October 8, while employed at Advantage Nissan in Westbury, Shaquanna House, 23, obtained a credit card from a 21-year old female victim. During a transaction at Nissan the defendant did not return the credit card of the victim.  She then used the card at Century 21 in Westbury and a gas station in Westbury.  The total loss for the credit card company is in excess of $350. On October 25 the defendant was placed under arrest at her home without incident. House is charged with second degree forgery, first degree identity theft and fourth degree grand larceny. She was arraigned on October 26 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Carle Place

An accident involving a tractor-trailer and a car occurred on Old Country Road and the Meadowbrook State Parkway on October 24 at 12:09 p.m. Injuries were reported.

Hicksville

A leak from a 100-lbs. propane tank was reported at 36 Pewter Lane on October 24 at 9:04 p.m. A hazmat team was requested to the scene.

Four Massapequa men were arrested for robbery on October 24 at 5:55 p.m. According to detectives, Joseph Dilena, 19, Ryan Heselton, 18, and two 17-year old accomplices arrived in the parking lot of 7-Eleven at 599 South Broadway in a car driven by Dilena.  They picked up the 20 year-old victim with the intention of purchasing an undisclosed amount of oxycodone pills. The group drove to Sleepy’s located at 1000 South Oyster Bay Road, pushed the victim out of the car in the parking lot, proceeded to punch and kick him and removed oxycodone pills from his pocket.  The defendants got back in the car and fled southbound on South Oyster Bay Road.  The victim received minor injuries and refused medical attention. The four men are charged with second degree robbery and were arraigned on October 25 at First District Court in Hempstead. 

Franklin Square

A robbery that occurred at 7:56 p.m. on October 15 in Franklin Square. According to detectives, a suspect armed with a dark colored handgun entered the Subway Restaurant located at 679 Franklin Avenue and demanded the cash from the register. The two female victims, ages 18 and 20 yrs., fearing for their safety complied with the suspect’s demand to open the cash register. The subject then removed an undetermined amount of US currency and fled the store. There were no injuries reported. The male white suspect is described as 5’10”, stocky build, a salt and pepper colored beard, approximately 45 to 50 years old, wearing a dark blue Northface hoodie style sweatshirt, dark colored pants and red and black colored gloves. Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

Garden City

A homeowner reports that someone had entered his First Street residence through an unlocked rear door and removed an undetermined amount of jewelry from a bedroom on October 18. The homeowner was in another room during the incident but was unaware of the theft.

Garden City officers assisted Nassau County officers with a vehicle stop on Franklin Avenue on October 20. The county officers had observed the vehicle traveling recklessly on several streets in the Garden City and Mineola areas. At one time, the vehicle exceeded 80 MPH and at another the vehicle almost struck a pedestrian. The driver of the vehicle, a male 19-year-old from Garden City, was arrested for reckless endangerment, reckless driving, three counts of speeding, a lane violation, possession of marijuana and three counts of felony possession of a forged instruments (driver’s licenses).

A male 42-year-old from Brick, NJ, struck the Nassau Blvd. train overpass with his tractor trailer on October 23. The top of the trailer was damaged. The driver was cited for disregarding a low clearance sign as well as five equipment violations.

West Hempstead

James V. Gomez, 18, of West Hempstead, was arrested on Oct. 21 on Long Beach Road and Daly Boulevard in Oceanside for DWI.
