Crimes Nearby: Terrorist Threat, Cocaine and Found Body

A look at crimes in the towns surrounding Mineola.

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

New Hyde Park

A motor vehicle accident involving at least two cars occurred on Lakeville Road near White Avenue on Dec 21 at 11:46 a.m. At least one victim was transported to the hospital. 

Franklin Square

Crime Stoppers and the Nassau County Police Department’s Fourth Squad are seeking the public’s help with identifying an unknown suspect wanted in connection with a commercial burglary that occurred on November 19, at approximately 2:30 a.m. The subject broke the glass to the front door and entered Olivetto Restaurant at 190 New Hyde Park Road. While inside, this subject did open the cash register and removed an undisclosed amount of U.S. Currency and exited the store. The subject fled in an unknown direction. A car overturned on the Southern State Parkway west of exit 17 blocking several lanes on December 19 at 7:40 p.m.

Franklin Avenue was closed in both directions on December 21 at 7:34 a.m. between Corona Avenue and Dutch Broadway due to an overturned car. It was reopened at 8:58 a.m. 

Old Westbury

A car crashed into a tree at Glen Cove Road and I U Willets Road on December 21 at 9:36 a.m. Old Westbury Police and Roslyn Fire Department members responded to the scene. 

Westbury

A 13-year old Westbury male was arrested for making terrorist threats that occurred between December 14-15. According to detectives, a male juvenile logged on to a friend’s Facebook account while using his own computer so he could send threatening messages to two other 13-year old female victims that he felt were bullying him. An investigation revealed that the messages were traced to the arrested juvenile’s computer. He was arrested at his residence without incident and both parents being present. There were no injuries reported. The juvenile defendant is charged with making a terroristic threat. He was arraigned on December 18 in Family Court in Mineola.

Wires were reported down on a truck with a person inside at 134 Linden Ave. on December 20 at 11:23 a.m. The Westbury Fire Department responded to the scene with LIPA also requested.

A car overturned on the westbound side of the Northern State Parkway by Glen Cove Road on December 19 at 11:09 p.m. There were no occupants in the vehicle when police arrived.

Hicksville

A pedestrian was struck at Plainview Road and Park Avenue on December 17 at 7:09 a.m. Ambulances were requested to the scene.

Police conducted a search for a suspect at 181 Ohio St. on December 18 at 7:52 p.m. The suspect was described as a white male, 5’10” wearing a camouflage jacket and wanted for allegedly threatening his mother. On December 19 at 2:38 p.m. emergency services were summoned for an emotionally disturbed person who barricaded themselves in the attic at the same address.

A robbery occurred on December 21 at 10:25 p.m. when a female victim, 54, while in her driveway on Bamboo Lane, was approached by a male subject armed with a black handgun, demanding money. The victim threw a shopping bag containing boots at the subject, who then fled the scene northbound on Bamboo Lane, with the proceeds. No injuries were reported. The subject is described as 5’8”-5’10” tall with a slim build, medium to dark complexion (race unknown). He was wearing a dark colored ski mask, dark fleece jacket and blue jeans. Police ask anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

A robbery occurred on December 22 at 11:50 a.m. when a male victim, 27 years of age, exited a residence on Newbridge Road he was approached by two unknown male subjects. The first subject engaged the victim in conversation, as the second subject grabbed the victim from behind. They removed the victim’s wallet containing an unknown amount of U.S. currency and his iPhone from his pockets. Both subjects fled on foot, subject one headed northbound towards Old Country Road while the second subject fled southbound towards Kingston Avenue. There were no injuries reported. Subject one is described as a male white, 6’ tall, 190 lbs. The second subject is described as either Hispanic or Middle-Eastern,  5’08” tall, 200 lbs. Detectives request anyone with information regarding the above crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

Bethpage

A body was found in the woods at Central Avenue and the Bethpage State Parkway on December 15 at 3:36 p.m. The incident was reported by a Nassau County Police Ambulance. A K9 unit was requested to the crime scene to help investigate.

A car accident occurred at South Fifth Street with a person trapped on December 15 at 4:18 p.m.

Garden City

An investigation by Garden City detectives at the Merillon Avenue train station on December 12 resulted in the arrest of a male 31-year-old from Garden City and a male 44-year-old from New Hyde Park for possession of crack/cocaine.

A 60-year-old female from Mineola was cited on December 17 for leaving the scene of a property damage auto accident on Old Country Road and Franklin Avenue earlier in the day. 

West Hempstead

Glenn E. Moore, 44, of Laurelton, was arrested on Dec. 17 for shoplifting at the Pathmark located at 460 Franklin Ave. in Franklin Square.

Sherry Toney, 50, of Elmont, was arrested on Dec. 18 for shoplifting at the Stop & Shop located at 50 Cherry Valley Ave. in West Hempstead.

An unknown person(s) caused damage to two passenger side windows of two vehicles parked on Hempstead Gardens Drive in West Hempstead on December 18.
