Mineola Man Charged with Burglarizing Two Westbury Stores

A Mineola man was arrested Wednesday for a burglary that occurred in September at a Westbury jewelry store.

Thomas Russo was placed under arrest by officers from the in front of his home and charged with breaking into several businesses along Old Country Road.

According to detectives, 911 received a call on September 22 for a burglary in progress at the Jewelry Exchange on Old Country Road at 2:30 a.m. on September 22. Upon arrival officers observed a broken store front window but no person inside. Proceeds were assorted jewelry.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. the owner of Bowery Lighting, which is located next door to Jewelry Exchange, responded to his place of business and noticed a hole in the outside wall. He then noticed that a silver Breitling wristwatch and a laptop computer were missing from his desk.

The defendant was charged with two counts of third degree burglary and two counts of second degree criminal mischief. Russo will be arraigned on Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
