Mineola Woman Charged with Theft from Mentally-Challenged Adults

Mariea Martin allegedly took more than $4K from patients under her care.

A Mineola woman who worked as a site manager for the Rockville Centre branch of the Association for the Help of Retarded Children (AHRC) was arrested on Wednesday after she allegedly stole more than $4,000 from mentally-challenged adults that were under her care, said.

According to First Precinct Detectives, Mariea Martin, 36, of Mineola, withdrew $4,200 from the bank accounts of mentally-challenged adults at AHRC between March and September of this year. 

Martin is being charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, first-degree falsifying business records, first-degree defraud and three counts of petit larceny. She was issued an appearance ticket and will appear in First District Court on Jan. 10.
