Becker Kicks Off Campaign for Rematch Against McCarthy

The Nassau County Legislator lost in 2010 to the Democratic incumbent.

Nassau County Legis. Francis Becker recently announced that he will seek a congressional bid to New York's 4th district, two years after losing to Rep. Carolyn McCarthy in 2010.

The Lynbrook resident still needs to gain the Republican nomination for the election - Becker will square off against Frank Scaturro, whom he defeated in 2010 for the nomination. Party primary elections are scheduled for June 26.

“The overwhelming support I’ve received during the petitioning period has been tremendous. I’m extremely grateful to all my campaign volunteers, as well as each and every Committeeperson, who helped carry my designating petition throughout Nassau County,” Becker said. “We’re gaining the momentum we need to trounce my primary opponent and then outperform our underachieving Congresswoman at the polls."

McCarthy defeated Becker in 2010 for a bid to the 4th Congressional District seat, 89,828 votes to 77,483.

Becker is a long-time Lynbrook resident and graduate of Lynbrook HS. He is the first elected representative of the 6th Legislative District in the Nassau County Legislature, and has been re-elected for nine consecutive terms. Becker won re-election in 2011 over Democrat Anthony Gonzalez, capturing 69 percent of the vote.

Candidates for Congress in New York’s 4th Congressional District needed to submit a minimum of 938 valid petition signatures on the major party lines, Becker submitted more than 13,200, while McCarthy submitted just 2,800, according to a release. McCarthy declined to comment Monday.

“The petitioning process is not easy, especially in New York,” Becker said.  “However, I’m humbled to be gaining traction among our neighbors.  I never imagined we’d be five times more successful than my opponent, who has been part of the Washington establishment for the better part of almost two decades.”

I'm sorry Marie but there is no information about when the project will actually start. TheRead More developer had requested an extension from the board at a previous meeting and we do not know of a firm start date. When we do receive one, we will most certainly publish it.
