Locals React to Government Shutdown

Patch followers share their views on Facebook.

With the first government shutdown since 1995 underway, locals have flocked to Facebook to vent.

"It's amazing how this country is run you must enact direct law in order to affect congresses pay and you know full well any new budget will have raises for them and they'll pat themselves on the back after they resolve it," wrote Brian Douglas Stein on the Long Beach Patch Facebook page.

Reacting to the news that Congress would still receive their paychecks, Daniella Steinberg Lans wrote on Long Beach Patch Facebook, "They should be handled like union workers, docked twice for everyday of what amounts to a walkout."

"These are the same congressmen and women that have exempted themselves from a medical program that is so good that everyone should have it, except them," wrote Allison Quinn Gamba on Garden City Patch's Facebook. "Is anyone surprised that they continue to pay themselves while low level workers get nothing? But Wall Street is the root of all evil, [shaking my head]."

"Who is going to fund the health care act? Looks like the biggest entitlement program ever on the backs of the tax payers," wrote Gloria Dodaro on Long Beach's Facebook.
